I too take the lose of Gourmet magazine personally. I have every issue of Gourmet magazine issued since 1976 when I discovered this wonderful magazine. Is it possible that the demise of Gourmet is part of a devolution trend in American culture that is taking down newspapers on a daily basis? In depth reporting on food, wine and travel in Gourmet is so satisfying - just like plowing through an in depth article in the New York Times that helps me understand what's going on in a distant corner of the world. How can all this wonderful content that many of us value be disappearing? Is it just part of the transition to online information gathering? Can we no longer afford a variety of information outlets? Frankly, I don't buy goods because they are advertised in Gourmet magazine and I don't buy them because their advertisements appear on a blinking banner in a search page - and I don't know anyone who does. Seems like the business community and the placement of their advertisements is determining the number and breadth of reading materials we have - but how can that be? How many dedicated readers does it take to keep a print publication alive these days? I plan on boycotting every Conde Nast publication because its obvious they don't give a darn about me as a reader so I will cross them off as a publisher. I recommend you all do so as well - and let them know its all due to the closure of Gourmet. I say dump Bon Appetit and keep Gourmet and if necessary actually charge for the subscription instead of giving it away for free which is what Conde Nast has been doing with deeply discounted subscription prices.

Count me as another Gourmet reader who will never willing support any Conde Nast product! Gourmet is a unique magazine in terms of depth and breadth, and can not be substituted with any other food magazine on the market. I am a 20 year subscriber who pretty much reads every word and enjoys every feature. Unlike some old-timers, I have greatly enjoyed the updated focus on sustainability and the politics of food, and foolishly imagined that the freshness of the writing and approach would keep Gourmet safe.

Too bad, Conde Nast- I am a pretty desirable demographic, and I imagine many other Gourmet readers are too. Your empire may survive without us since it is so vast, but I will not forget.

I'm so mad about this I'm replying to my own post! Addendum: I also subscribe to Bon Appetite. So now Conde Nast has just managed to dump me as a subscriber to both of their magazines. Further, why can't Gourmet be revived as an online magazine? I don't enjoy the format nearly as much, but that would be better than the void. And why is the current (and last) issue of Gourmet stuffed with subscription cards for the ludicrous price of $20? Maybe Conde Nast is hoping for donations?

While still very devastated by the loss,
after all, Gourmet was the one subscription I never cancelled,
I am now trying to think ahead:

I am hoping to save Gourmet's online archive for future reference.
