“Two-Dollar Cocktail”

July 1992
Two dollars may sound cheap, but when this cocktail was created, that was a lot of money for a cocktail and French brandy—Cognac, that is—was the height of luxury. This is essentially a Sidecar without the lemon juice; it could have been called a Two-Wheel Cocktail.

ice cubes
1 1/2 ounces (1 jigger) French brandy
1 1/2 ounces (1 jigger) Curaçao
a lemon twist for garnish if desired

In a cocktail shaker half-filled with the ice combine the brandy and the Curaçao and shake the mixture for the 30 seconds. Pour and strain the drink into a tall glass, add more ice, and garnish the drink with the lemon twist. Makes 1 drink.
