1990s Recipes + Menus

Beau Fashion

May 1997
How much is a splash? Well, it’s definitely more than a dash, but beyond that it’s hard to say. We like this with a half ounce or so of orange juice. We also prefer to stir everything but the soda to combine well, then top with soda and give it another, more gentle stir. This take on the Old Fashioned came from one of the restaurants at the Hotel Crescent Court, in Dallas.

1 1/4 ounces (2 1/2 tablespoons) bourbon
1 oz (2 tablespoons) simple syrup
1 1/2 tablespoons Grand Marnier
3 dashes Angostura bitters
3 splashes fresh orange juice
club soda

In an Old Fashioned glass filled with ice combine bourbon, simple syrup, Grand Marnier, bitters, and juice and top off with soda. Stir drink until combined well. Makes 1 drink.
