Jonathan Gold, the only food writer ever to win a Pulitzer Prize, is returning to Gourmet. Starting on Monday, October 27, Gold—who was the magazine’s New York restaurant reviewer for several years before returning to Los Angeles—will have a column on gourmet.com, Gourmet’s editor in chief, Ruth Reichl, announced today.
“We are thrilled to have Jonathan writing for us again,” said Reichl. “No one writes more eloquently and knowledgeably about food, and I know his legions of fans will be excited to see him on gourmet.com.”
Gold’s column will cover a range of food-related topics, from his eating experiences to his opinions on food trends. “Gold’s presence on gourmet.com highlights our drive to present the best food writing on the Web,” said online editorial director Adam Houghtaling.
A former restaurant critic for Los Angeles magazine, California magazine, and the Los Angeles Times, Mr. Gold presently writes the “Counter Intelligence” column for LA Weekly. He is also the author of Counter Intelligence: Where to Eat in the Real Los Angeles, published in 2000. From May 1999 to February 2004, he was a Gourmet contributing editor, and he has also written about rock and roll for Spin, Vanity Fair, Details, and Rolling Stone.
Mr. Gold, who appears frequently on radio shows, including Public Radio International’s This American Life and KCRW-FM’s Good Food, won the James Beard Foundation Journalism Award for restaurant criticism four times, including the 2000 award when he was writing for Gourmet.
